Subject: Get up

Recently, I spoke to a group about how to "get up" when you get knocked down. I began my presentation by showing a video clip http://www.ultimates.in/2011/09/07/best-motivational-video-ever-2/ of a young man who was born without arms or legs. As the audience watched the courage of this young man, tears began to swell up in most of the faces. I remember the first time I watched it. I balled like a baby. My tears were not out of pity, but out of admiration. Instead of feeling sorry for himself, he decided to inspire others! Recently, our campus was saddened and shocked to learn that one of our very own students had been killed at an off campus party. You could say that our campus got "knocked down". For some, it may have felt like you were knocked out. Like the young man in the clip, I have been impressed and inspired to see our students "get back up". Determined to be stronger and more unitied then before! There is a diferent tone on campus. I want to encourage our students to continue to remember the positive aspects of our campus and the fact that most of our students are doing great things. For some it may take a little time to feel like getting up again. That's ok. Just know that I am here for you and there are many of us who here to help you get back up. My hope is that our FSU family will not forget! Like many things in life, we as humans get desensitized and fall back into old ways of thinking or behaving. Can I challenge and encourage us all, stay focused, stay faithful, keep believing in the power of unconditional love and continue to keep this new spirit alive on our campus. Help someone TODAY, to get back up!
